The #Emptyshelf Challenge

I LOVE challenges.  I'm simply a naturally competitive person.  No affair what I'm doing, I accept a wishing to hold out the best at it.

I also LOVE to read.  As a child, I tin flame shout out back going to the library in ane lawsuit a calendar week during the summer.  I would acquire out alongside 7-8 chapter books which I would promptly devour.  My favorites included Nancy Drew, Little House On The Prairie, The Babysitters Club, The Boxcar Children, Sweet Valley High, The Bobbsey Twins, the Anne of Green Gables series, in addition to anything yesteryear Judy Blume.  In high school, I became obsessed alongside classic literature, in addition to I amassed hence many classics that my bookshelves hold off similar they should belong to an English linguistic communication teacher.

Then came college.  Instead of reading for pleasure, I flora myself reading for school.  My pile of books to read kept growing, in addition to my fourth dimension to read kept shrinking.  Since starting teaching, I've flora myself alongside fifty-fifty less fourth dimension to read.  I nonetheless dearest to read.  But, I accept express time.  In lodge to brand fourth dimension to read, I accept to chose non to produce sure other things.

This year, I've decided I wishing to read more.  My sis also loves to read.  So, I decided the best means to acquire myself to read to a greater extent than was to plow it into a competition.  My sis is super competitive in addition to loves to read, too.  So, I intend it's a expert pairing.  Who tin flame read the most books earlier the terminate of the year?

My Empty Shelf
On Dec 27th, nosotros started The Empty Shelf Challenge.  I read nearly the #EmptyShelf challenge on the blog of Jon Acuff.  The premise is simple.  Empty off ane of your shelves.  For every volume you lot complete from in addition to hence until Dec 31, 2014, house the volume on the shelf.  Amaze yourself yesteryear simply how many books you lot read inwards the adjacent year.

We're over half-way through January, in addition to I've already read to a greater extent than books than I likely read inwards the entirety of 2013.  Okay, mayhap that's a slight exaggeration.  But, I've definitely been reading a lot more.  I don't know how much to attribute to this challenge, but this challenge sure isn't pain me.

I'm thinking that I volition post service an update of books read at the terminate of each calendar month hither on my blog.  (And, for the record, I intend I may hold out inwards the Pb correct now.  Of course, my sis didn't commence counting the books she had read until the outset of January.  It's non my error she gave me a chip of an early on start, though.)

I'm hoping to tackle about math books this year, too.  One of the outset I wishing to revisit is Isaac Asimov's Realm of Algebra.  I read it a few years ago, in addition to I was hence impressed alongside his explanation of algebra inwards everyday language.  Now that I'm working on finishing my minute yr of teaching, I intend I could larn a lot from revisiting it in addition to comparison his explanations to my own.

Don't fifty-fifty acquire me started on all the education books I wishing to reread...
